Free Slaves

“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” -Galatians 5:13

The Christian life is counter-intuitive.

We are called to see things that are unseen.

We are made great by becoming small.

We are exalted most in humility.

We glory in our sufferings.

The death of Jesus has given us new life.

The only way to truly live is to die to ourselves.

And we are set free to be slaves to righteousness and serve others.

Jesus didn’t just come to set us free, but he came to teach us about a new kind of freedom. This freedom is experienced most richly when it is poured out for the sake of others. We are lifted highest when we make ourselves lowest. We are not free to get as much as we want, but to give as much as we can. The counter-intuitive message of Jesus asks us to, in our freedom, choose to serve a new master, so that we can bring others out of bondage and into his freedom as well.

PRAYER: Jesus, I thank you for your love that has set me free. I pray that today, I would use my freedom to serve you and serve those around me with the same love. I pray that my service would draw others out of the bondage of sin, and into the freedom you desire for all of us. Use me to today, Lord.
