I Love Eating
“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
Human beings eat food for many different reasons. It gives us nutrients for the health of our bodies. It gives us the energy we need to get through the day. It tastes good. Eating is an enjoyable experience. Sharing food with one another draws us into loving community. There is something about good food shared with good people that does something special for the soul.
For these same reasons, we study and meditate on God’s word. God’s word provides the nutrients our soul needs to be healthy. A timely word from his Spirit can give us the energy we need in a time of struggle. When we gather together to study and declare God’s word, we find ourselves lifted up by a loving community. And lastly, hearing and studying the word of God should be an enjoyable experience. His word is good, and it will taste good to the man or woman whose heart is fully devoted to him.
We survive on food, but we live when the word of God becomes out sustenance, our energy, and our hope.
PRAYER: Thank you, Father, for your word. I thank you that you pour it out in scripture, as well as by the power of your Spirit. I pray, God, that you would make me more attentive to your voice today. I believe your word has the power to not only sustain me, but to help me flourish in all seasons of life.
