Growing Pains

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.” -Psalm 145:18-19

When I was younger, I suffered from what my mother called “growing pains” in the middle of the night. I would wake up at 2 am to terrible muscles spasms in my lower legs that would go on for ten or twenty minutes at a time. It was extremely painful, especially for a six year old.

On those nights when I woke in pain, I always repeated the same cry, “MOOOOOOM!” I would call her name over and over and over again until I finally stirred her from her sleep and she came to my room. She would then patiently massage my legs until the pain went away, all the while telling me that everything was okay.

I can never remember a time when I called for my mom in the middle of the night and she didn’t come. Our Heavenly Father is like that. Scripture promises us that when we call on the name of the Lord, he hears us. When we wake up in the middle of the night with growing pains from our current job, relationship, or our marriage, or kids, God is already awake and ready to come and sit with us in our distress.

God is never so far off that he cannot hear our cries for help, and he loves to answer them for his children.

PRAYER: Dear God, I thank you that you are a good Father, and that you are attentive to the cries of your people. I pray that when I am in distress, that I would not lean on my own power, or that I would not give over to the pain, but that I would call out to you, expectant that you will be there for me in my time of need.
