We've All Done It

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” -James 5:16

If you really think about it, sin is the one thing we all truly have in common. Our need for grace is what binds us together as humanity. So why are we so secretive about our struggles and shortcomings? It’s not as if we are hoodwinking anyone into thinking we’re perfect. We are human, and so our sin is already evident.

Why not instead, take James’ command seriously and allow our need for grace to draw us into community through confession and prayer. It is within that type of vulnerable fellowship that lives are changed. These are the “wonderful results” that James is talking about. They cannot be achieved by hiding our sin in shame. They are only experienced by bringing darkness out into the light.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for your grace that allows all of us to, even in sin be drawn together. I pray for openness and vulnerability in my conversations today. I pray that through mutual confession and prayer, that me and my community would be drawn closer to you.
