The Reason

“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.” -Matthew 6:2

Why do we do what we do? Do we do it for recognition from the world? Or even for recognition from God? Or do we give and serve out of obedience to God and love for his people, with no expectation of a return. This is the humility of a heart fully devoted to God.

The rewards of earthly recognition feel great in the moment. And to an extent, worldly praise for an accomplishment is something we should be proud of. However, just as quickly as that praise comes, it will ultimately fade. The eternal rewards of God are not always as visible, but they continue to grow and deepen and widen exponentially. There is no measure we can use to know just how far God can take our humble service in his kingdom.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, make me your servant today. Help me to love those around me unconditionally, without expectation of love or rewards in return. I pray that my love and service would bring glory to your name far after I am gone from this earth.
